Meet CommonGround volunteers Karol Swan and Joan Ruskamp.

Karol isn’t just a farmer — she also has a background in meat grading and certification through the United States Department of Agriculture.

Joan is a farmer, a licensed veterinary technician and a CommonGround volunteer. She raises beef cattle with her husband outside of Dodge, Nebraska.  Joan has a passion for sharing her knowledge of the beef industry with consumers. 

Karol and Joan recently joined the CornsTalk crew to answer consumer questions about GMOs and food safety!  GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, were developed to solve a particular problem.  For example, the Artic Apple and the Innate potato do not brown. These GMOs are helping to sovle the problem of food waste.   Watch the video below and learn more.
