A lifelong farm girl, I reside on a farm south of Leigh with my husband, Jeff. We feed beef cattle and grow corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. We use crop rotation with these three crops to better utilize soil nutrients and break pest cycles. All of our corn and a portion of our alfalfa are used as feed for our beef cattle operation. Manure from the cattle is then applied back onto the fields, providing a valuable source of nutrients for the next crop. The best part of our farm operation, however, is the delicious and nutritious beef that ends up on consumers’ tables throughout the U.S. and around the world. My primary role is farm bookkeeper. In addition, I help Jeff with anything from caring for the cattle to driving a tractor or combine. Our adult children, Blythe and Boone, are both involved in agriculture-related careers, and have continued interest in the farm. While we all have different roles, our commitment to safe food and a healthy environment always bring us together.
