I grew up on my family’s farm, just the town over from where I currently live. I spent plenty of time up in the tractor with my dad, feeding bottle calves and even getting to spend time running the rake tractor and grain cart wagon. After receiving my nursing degree, I returned home to get married. We moved to my husband’s family ranch where we currently live in the original farmhouse. Every year we try to make improvements as farming and ranching have changed greatly over the past 100 years. In the past, we raised chickens, cows, milk cows, pigs and row crops. Currently, we have cows, haying, corn and soybeans. It’s amazing to see the changes that have happened from the way we raise crops, feed cattle and care for them. My husband and I both have off the farm jobs. Ryon works as a mechanic, and I work as a nurse at the local hospitals. I love that we can raise our three kids on the ranch and be close to both of our families. My favorite part has always been the calves and cows, and I especially love when we have a bottle calf or two. It’s a great experience for the kids to learn responsibility about caring for the animals, and it’s something that I always loved doing as a kid. I never planned to return back home, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!
