Concerns of food prices have been brought up recently and we’ve been asked, “Am I paying too much for food for my family?”

We’re fortunate in the United States to only have to spend 10 percent of our income on food versus 18-25 percent around the world, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Food in our country remains relatively inexpensive, and we have a wide variety in choices. Read more here.

This recipe of mine is fast, easy and a family favorite. We serve it with a vegetable and bit of fruit. (A BIG time saver during lambing and shearing time!)

Patty Melts

1lb hamburger
Loaf of English Muffin Bread
favorite shredded cheese

I like to spray my pan with a bit of non-stick spray and then sprinkle some salt in it (then no need to season meat) It gives the burgers a bit of caramelized taste.

Make as many hamburger patties as you will need to feed your family, but pat them thinner then you normally would for regular burgers.  Fry them until done.

In another pan put a buttered sliced of English Muffin Bread (butter side down) over med/low heat.

Top with your favorite shredded cheese and one hamburger.  Top with another slice of buttered bread and flip when golden brown.
